How do record sales work? - Mon Feb 13, 2012 10:26 am
all of this should be prefaced with the word 'traditionally' as exceptions occur, but this is how it works with your average band/major publisher.
the publisher pays up front the money to finance the cd, they pay for the studio time, supply money for instruments, usually money for a big tour.
The album is sold and a percentage of the album's sale is given as a royalty to the band. However, before the band can make any money, all of the money that the label paid up front needs to be paid back.
I'm sure you've heard the old phrase that 9/10 bands on a label don't turn a profit, this is why. The label itself has made 10 times back what it invested before the band is considered turning a profit.

allow me to help you out then.
the two arguments centred around:
"the hustler is worse because he is cynically exploiting others, he is aware that it won't work beyond a placebo effect."
"the fool is worse because he truly believes what he is selling. A hustler wouldn't benefit from telling someone not to use chemotherapy, a fool would believe that his medicines work better."

It is well cool. It comes out the end of this month on steam, not sure how much it will be, though.

here's a fun dilemma me and a couple of others argued over yesterday:
take your favourite snake-oil, whether it be homoeopathic medicine, faith-healing, that one where they put rocks on you like andy kaufman had, etc.
Whom is worse, the hustler (doesn't believe in it himself but sells it's benefits for personal gain) or the fool (believes in the practice and firmly believes that it will help people)?

ps3s are in some proprietary format, not readable in pcs.
To make it worse, it apparently encrypts the drive based on the specific console key. You cannot even put it in another PS3. Your only hope was to use ftp to transfer all of the stuff off it before it broke.
Fucking dirty
