How do record sales work? - Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:42 am

Wow, just what I was after. Thanks

How do record sales work? - Mon Feb 06, 2012 7:28 pm

I've been thinking, how do record sales work? Does the artist get a percentage of each individual sale? Do they get a lump sum pay-off by the record company based on their estimate of how well a record will do? How long does a record have to be released before an artist no longer sees any money?

Say, for example, I bought Cliff Richard's debut album 'Cliff' which was released in the late 50s. Would Sir Cliff see any of the £3.59 that I would pay for it?

Does he get a payslip every month saying how much he has earned from an album he made over half a century ago? I hope it would say something like, "One person has bought your debut album this month. Here's your share of £3.59."

So many questions.

I'll try to find out next week but I'll definitely know when I get back to Cyprus at the end of the month.

This week I've mostly been outside telling people what to do. It's cold outside. I could see my breath and everything.

I've just read that. I kind of feel bad for Goldhawk Interactive who are making Xenonauts, a spiritual successor to XCOM. This will really take away the shine of what they're doing.

Fletchedit: While we're on the subject of XCOM, the entire franchise is available on Steam today for £3.05.

That really is a dilemma. A wise man once said, "Who's more foolish - the fool or the fool who follows him?" Hmm, I guess that could be applied to both. In terms of character the Hustler would be considered evil whereas the Fool would just be considered ignorant. In terms of damage to other people the Fool would be worse because at least in this case the Hustler isn't denying proven medicine.

It depends on whether the fool can be proved wrong and will accept that proof. If they do, then the hustler is worse. If they don't then I think they're both as bad as each other (also known as the "Fletch can't form an opinion" option.)

Are you going to change the opposing character to something else?

It's pretty good, actually. I got the hang of it and scored about three in a row. I can see how you would be able to add extra levels/maps with obstacles or holes, etc.

Buster Bloodvessel fell of the side much more than the Turtle. Damn you, Buster!

I've had it open this morning. The thermal paste on the CPU and GPU was all dried up so I stuck some more on. I gave it a good dusting and still nothing. When I'm next in work I'll try to re-solder the processors.

Something else I'm worried about is that I can't read the PS3's hard drive from my computer. This could be a formatting issue or that it's knackered. I hope it's not because all of my saved games from the last 5 years is on it.

Gah, my PS3 broke last night. It's that flashing red light problem. I had a search and basically that could be anything.
