Any beer fans among you rude rude people?

Post by MidlandsDan on Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:35 pm

I'm not talking about downing 10 pints of lager and punching someone.

And knowing that there is more than one type of Guiness doesn't count.

No, I'm talking about real ales, bitters, stouts...anyone else here worship at their moist cup?

The British independent / small brewery beer industry is something to be celebrated and to be proud of.

Give the chavs a bit of Titanic and you will solve antisocial behaviour, because the buggers will all be unconcious!

    Amen.

    I bloody love real beer.

When it comes to proper beers I prefer the paler, fruitier ales (call me a girl if you will). The darker stuff I find to be far too heavy to manage sometimes.

One of the most unusual pints of beer i've had is one that was bright green. Called Spring something I think. Was nice as well.

I've been wanting to do a pub crawl by train for a while now around these parts, there's plenty of good old Yorkshire pubs serving real ale out towards Huddersfield and beyond.

Also, while I was out in Europe, me and the lady went to a Czech Beer Festival:

    "I bloody love real beer."

    Damn straight. Repped.

"When it comes to proper beers I prefer the paler, fruitier ales (call me a girl if you will)."

Fair play. I used to be a stouts / dark beers only kind of geezer, but of late I do like slightly lighter stuff for a change. All have their merits.

"The darker stuff I find to be far too heavy to manage sometimes."

If you want something heavy to manage, I once had a 14% stout. The bloke serving asked me if I wanted a 1/3 or a 1/2...by the look on his face when I said I'd have a whole pint, I should have known disaster would ensue...

"One of the most unusual pints of beer i've had is one that was bright green. Called Spring something I think. Was nice as well."

Now this is another bloody thread for me to favourite, so I can look into that beer later.

"I've been wanting to do a pub crawl by train for a while now around these parts, there's plenty of good old Yorkshire pubs serving real ale out towards Huddersfield and beyond."

My home town, Rugby, once had more pubs per square mile then anywhere in the country. We've got some fine pubs with real ale etc. also.

"Also, while I was out in Europe, me and the lady went to a Czech Beer Festival:"

    Thanks for the photos. [/quote]

i'm not one for beer really, i'm more of a cider drinker

but i do like hobgoblin and old speckled hen,

and desperados, although i'm not sure if thats classed as lager, basically it's flavoured with tequila, and it tastes like sherbert, it's pretty awesome.

I'm a lager man. Not this Fosters piss though. I prefer premium european lagers. Most of the time I have to settle with Kronenbourg but there's this pub in Norwich called the Belgian Monk that do loads of speciality Belgian beers including the fruit ones. They do good food too.

As for real ales, I don't drink it regular but once I've had a couple of sips I could probably drink it all night. I organized a trip with everyone at work to Woodforde's Brewery in Norfolk. It's still going ahead but as soon as I booked it they arrange to send me away on a course that same week.

well no mater what the beer, its always going to be better from the pub, so my fav would probably be the guest ale or tetlys.

those who havnt drunk tetlys from lleds, do so befor they move the plant down south, its so much better than anywhere else in the country.

but yeah ciders for fags and lagers for hot lunch times, Not the pub

It's always amazed me how much more popular Guiness is than porter. Porter is so much nicer. It's also very English, which is another reason why I'm surprised it isn't drunk more. Fullers London Porter is my favourite drink.

As for ale, still haven't found a better brewery than Shepherd Neame, with Bishops finger their best, follwed by Master Brew then Spitfire. Not a fan of Hobgoblin, or any of the Wychwood beers, although the artwork on their bottles rules.

Pretty much. That and brand loyalty. People tend to drink what they drink, rarely do you see people at a bar umming and ahhing over what brand of stout to choose. Still think porter will have it's day though. Props to the person who started this thread btw, good stuff.
