It's pretty good, actually. I got the hang of it and scored about three in a row. I can see how you would be able to add extra levels/maps with obstacles or holes, etc.

i've since improved the ai a bit with plans to make him take his current speed more into account when deciding on angles

I've just read that. I kind of feel bad for Goldhawk Interactive who are making Xenonauts, a spiritual successor to XCOM. This will really take away the shine of what they're doing.
